Black and white silent film ‘The Artist’ took home three prizes from the Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles, hosted by British comedian Ricky Gervais. The movie, written and directed by France’sMichel Hazanavicius won the award for best comedy/musical and other two awards, one for its star Jean Dujardin and another for Ludovic Bource’s score.
‘The Descendants’ won two Golden Globes, including best drama picture and best actor for its star George Clooney. Onstage, the actor thanked writer and director Alexander Payne, while backstage he told reporters that, “He knows how to tell stories. He knows how to make something funny and how to turn it around.”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes the awards, also rewarded Meryl Streep, best dramatic actress for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady’, and Michelle Williams, best comedy actress for’My Life With Marilyn’. The best director award went to Martin Scorsese for his 3D fantasy film ‘Hugo’.
“I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example I take with me in my work and my life,” Michelle Williams said.
Other key winners were Woody Allen for his screenplay for ‘Midnight in Paris’ and Steven Spielberg who won best animated film with ‘The Adventures of Tintin’, while the Iranian drama ‘A Separation’ was chosen as best foreign-language film. Still, the most surprised winner of the evening seemed to be Madonna for writing the best song, “Masterpiece,” from ‘W.E.’, her biopic about the Duchess of Windsor.
Television awards included ‘Homeland’ for best drama series and its star Claire Danes as best dramatic actress, ‘Modern Family’ for best comedy, Jessica Lange as supporting actress for ‘American Horror Story,’ Peter Dinklage as supporting actor for ‘Game of Thrones,’ Matt LeBlanc as comedic actor for ‘Episodes,’ Laura Dern as comedic actress for ‘Episodes’ and Kelsey Grammer as dramatic actor for ‘Boss.’ Kate Winslet and Idris Elba won as best actress and actor in a TV miniseries or movie for ‘Mildred Pierce’ and ‘Luther,’ respectively, while British drama ‘Downton Abbey’ won as best TV miniseries.
Success for British historians after managing to put together a 2000 year old Roman cavalry helmet that was discovered shattered in 1000 pieces. Apparently their hard work and devotion helped puzzle together all the fragments of the amazingly detailed cavalry helmet.
The helmet, constructed out of an iron sheet and decorated once with gold leafs, unveiled an extraordinary craftsmanship featuring amazing 3D details including the bust of a person situated centered in the front of the helmet.
Reconstructing the helmet from close to ‘scratch’ took historians about 3 years, but it seems their efforts were repaid once the project was complete. Marilyn Hockey, a metal conservationist who began reconstructing the pieces at the British Museum told DailyMail that:
“Working our way down this enormous lump of clay, we discovered at the bottom some amazing finds … the emperor cheek piece told us it was something really special. To get something straight out of the soil like this is like gold. You can find out so much from it.”
It seems that the Romans were not too shy about bragging about their victories as the helmet features several scenes of military victory. Lions flanking a well detailed bust, an Emperor riding in Victory on a horse while seemingly under angelic protection, a leafs crown as well as other details once decorated the helmet.
According to experts, it is possible that the helmet belonged to a Briton who served in the Roman cavalry before the conquest of Britain by emperor Claudius in 43 AD.

Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno are two Dutch TV presenters who’s TV stunts have made headlines after turning to cannibalism on a stunt featured on a TV show which is titled in translation ‘Guinea Pigs’. The shocking stunt features the presenters eat a piece of meat from each other after undergoing surgery to remove a tiny piece of muscle from the body.
The presenters are seen on TV watching as a cook is frying each other’s tiny meat chunks and then they are featured eating it in front of a studio audience. The two agreed to the stunt and chose the part of their body from which they would have a little piece of muscle removed. One opted to have a chunk of meat removed from his abdomen while other the other one chose his backside for the ‘experiment’.
The two then swapped their meat, fried it unseasoned and ate it in front of an audience. The two don’t seem to be disgusted by the idea of eating human flesh and say that there is ‘nothing really that special’ about it. According to ABC News, Dennis Storm admitted that although he doesn’t regret the decision to ‘chew on his friend’ it did feel pretty weird. He said:
“It is weird to look into the eyes of a friend when you are chewing on his belly.”
The presenter also said that: “It was just a few centimetres of meat – and now I have a good story about that scar.”
According to their statements they entered the macabre challenge voluntarily and consider the entire act legal. The two also claim that the stunt didn’t pose any heath threats for them as the human meat was properly cooked.
