Facebook Timeline Becomes Mandatory for All Its Users

If until now Facebook Timeline was an opt-in service, in the upcoming weeks this becomes mandatory for all the network’s users. In a Tuesday update on the Facebook Blog, the social site announced that you’ll have seven days to preview your Timeline and the chance to hide content you don’t want out in the open. Users will receive a notification at the top of their home page when Timeline has landed in their account.

“Last year we introduced timeline, a new kind of profile that lets you highlight the photos, posts and life events that help you tell your story. Over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline. When you get timeline, you’ll have 7 days to preview what’s there now. This gives you a chance to add or hide whatever you want before anyone else sees it,” it was written on the blog post.

The new timeline replaces a user’s wall and gives you the chance to tell your story on one single page. The profile is created around a vertical timeline where you can add a photo gallery, a post from a friend, a note about what you’ve recently liked, or a small widget showing what friends you added recently. In addition to the layout itself, Timeline is accompanied by 80 new apps including music, news, travel, and food, among others. According to Facebook, these new apps will enable users to better share with their friends the activities that they enjoy.

“Timeline gives you an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect your most important moments. It also lets you share new experiences, like the music you listen to or the miles you run,” Facebook describes the new service.
